Truth now: My centrist vs. leftie friends’ reactions to Trump

Welcome back, Donny.

I have friends from all walks of life. They know I’m a right wing Trumper. It’s interesting how my middle-of-the-road and left-leaning friends are reacting to the Trump victory and his calls for action making recent headlines.

First of all, they come to me. They bring up the Trump topic. I don’t. I’m not one to “spike the ball” and gloat.

I didn’t have a Trump sign or wear my MAGA hat prior to the election. Silent majority type here.

That’s why it’s fascinating to me these middlers and lefties are coming to me with questions and comments. It’s great. It’s healthy. That’s the way it should be in a free society; a healthy exchange of ideas.

MIDDLE OF THE ROAD FRIEND (on phone as he drives and I’m sitting in my car) I didn’t know Trump was gonna slash half the federal government! (He sounds clearly impressed!)

ME: What’d ya think he was gonna do?

HIM: All I heard during the campaign was, “I’m not Kamala.”

HIM: I mean, he’s not even waiting until he takes the Oath of Office! All these enemy countries are backing down already! He’s got two years to get this done… he can’t wait for four.

ME: He’s taking action immediately, well before his inauguration.

HIM: His team at Mar-a-Lago has been strategizing this for months! Amazing!

My middle of the road friend went on about how liberals’ heads are exploding at the thought of a government clean up… he was duly impressed, indeed.

I love that awareness. It’s exhilarating to see the middle, non-committed center coming around and recognizing the impact of Trump’s reach to clean up our country and make it safe and economically productive again.

Left wing friend conversation (paraphrased)

My left-wing friend and I were face to face later that same day. Again, he brought up Trump, not me.

HIM: Congratulations on your team winning… (wan smile)

ME: It feels good. I spent the day after the election laughing and talking excitedly with my conservative friends.

HIM: I’m sure you did.

ME: Trump is the biggest comeback story of all. He was persecuted by the media mob, felony charges, assassination attempts…

At this point my left world view friend interrupted with a barrage of outcry about how Trump’s words got him into trouble every time.

HIM: Don’t blame the media — Trump says things that are outrageous, such as he actually wants to abolish the department of education! Read here for how the left sees this issue. Read here for what your Christian County Trumpet says about education.

ME; That’s great!

HIM: (astonished) Ok. I’ll bite. Go ahead and explain.

ME: The education system is in a ruin.

HIM: We all agree on that.

ME: Throwing more money at it won’t help. As you said, our education system is in disarray.

HIM: What do you propose?

ME; Private enterprise.

HIM: (flabbergasted) You’d privatize education for everyone?

ME: If possible, yes. I’d like private companies or churches to handle oversight of education. Let professionals mentor students as apprentices.

HIM: But it’s all about making money and big business?

ME: No, it’s about small business and helping the community. Not every private enterprise or effort has to be about making a profit. Whether it does or not is not the goal; education is the goal. Learning can’t survive the current bureacracy.

I went on to suggest tuition for all public schools, rather than taxing the daylights out of property owners.

ME: I’d rather pay a flat fee per student enrolled in my sons’ school. I live in a different district, so I shouldn’t have to pay so much since I don’t have kids in the district.

HIM: No tax or reduced for you?

ME; Reduced. I think families with students enrolled in each district should pay per student. Property owners could pay a minimal supplement as well.

We all need to work together

Regardless of the plan, Democrats and Republicans are better served working together. The Democratic Party needs an overhaul before that can become a reality.

We need both parties to focus on our economy and security. No more focus on gender changes and other woke ideology that disrupts the family structure. Diversity, equity and inclusion needs to go. Trump is erasing that crap from universities.

Let’s get back to men being masculine and women being feminine. I’m looking forward to Trump’s new administration, as are the center voters. We anticipate great progress in the coming years. So glad the Senate and House are GOP led as well so we can get the job done without further stalling!
