SPARTA, MO — Phillips Pharmacy is now celebrating 2 years in business serving the Sparta community.
Libby Phillips, pharmacist, operates the business from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday.
Wow, that’s a lot of commitment. Most people don’t understand what it’s like being tied to a counter day after day, dedicatedly delivering dutiful deeds. (What a lot of D’s!)
Libby is married to Calvin, and they have a 4-year-old daughter, Ellie, who plays in a side room while grandma and mom work back and forth. A true family experience!
Background story
Libby was graduated in 2012 from Sparta High School, attended Missouri State University until 2015, and graduated from UMKC in 2019.
Phillips Pharmacy is now celebrating for good reason
The pharmacy is a familiar site for the elderly population, which Sparta certainly has. But, younger people get prescriptions, too… and, who wants to drive all the way to Ozark? (Unless you live in Ozark, but I digress…)
Libby Phillips earned her Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2019 and was the pharmacist at Family Pharmacy in Sparta until it went out of business.
But, good news for Sparta, Libby opened her own pharmacy and hardware store with husband, Calvin in the old hardware store operated by Tony Fouts (remember the cat on the counter?) east of Town & Country Supermarket, which used to be J & M Foods (when Tony’s father, Jerry, and Tony’s brother, Mike) operated the grocery store.

“Calvin and I own the pharmacy and my parents (Melvin and Andrea Smith) own the hardware store,” Libby told the CCT in an exclusive interview in the executive office headquarters of Phillips Pharmacy.
The operation is definitely a local entrepreneurship. Andrea Smith makes pies famous to Spartans.

“We like to call ourselves a one stop shop where we offer pharmacy needs, hardware supplies, local flower bouquets from Sunrise Florals, and gifts and decor,” Libby stated. “Oh, and we are a local UPS drop off point.”
What else can you ask for in a little town like Sparta?
Welcome and many blessings for your future, Libby and family!
