SPARTA, MO — Today, January 23, is National Pie Day. The Christian County Trumpet honored 2 Sparta business owners with a pie from Village Inn in Ozark.

Libby Lea Phillips, pharmacist at Phillips Pharmacy, received a Caramel chocolate pecan high calorie high taste pie.

She got to choose since it’s ladies first!

Johnny Rooster, front man of the Christian County Trumpet, presented a delicious delightful delicacy Carmel pecan pie from Village Inn in Ozark to Libby Lea Phillips, pharmacist at Phillips Pharmacy in Sparta.

Barber gets his ‘cut’

The oft bragged on Sparta Barber Adam Struble was also awarded a Village Inn pie (banana cream was all we had left) in honor of National Pie Day today.

Adam Struble, Sparta’s legendary Barber, is presented a banana cream pie from Village Inn by CCT Editor Johnny Rooster, because that’s the only pie Johnny had left. Adam wisely charged Johnny full price for his haircut, nose, and ear wax job.

We salute Phillips Pharmacy and Struble’s Barber Shop in Sparta. Congratulations!

Best for last

We saved the best pie for last.

Karen Matthews, Christian County Treasurer, is famous for her homemade pies.

Her hand crafted, melt-in-your-mouth homemade pies sell for $100 or much more at area auctions.

Karen’s hubby, Roy, sometimes bids highest and wins what his wife won’t give him for free! After all, he has to smell the pies baking but can’t always have a taste!

Johnny’s 13-year-old son Malachi earned the coveted homemade cherry pie from Karen Matthews, Christian County Treasurer.

“This is the best pie I’ve ever had!” Malachi exclaimed between eager mouthfuls.

I concur.

Happy Pie Day!
