State Representatives are elected to 2 year terms, and may serve a total of 8 years.

State Senators serve 4 year terms and may serve a total of 8 years.

Representative districts are smaller than state senate districts.

Representatives may introduce legislation for consideration into law, called bills.

Bills are reviewed in committees, where groups of representatives consider the pros and cons before approval.

Once bills are approved and voted on, they are sent to the Senate for approval.

Likewise, the Senate may introduce bills, negotiate them, then approve them and send them to the House of Representatives.
