NIXA, MO — Standing room only. Running out of all available seats. That’s become the new norm at Christian County Library Board of Trustees monthly meetings since a nine-month controversy over sexually explicit books sparked the July election of two conservatives to the 5-person board.

Successful Summer Reading Program
Dana Roberts, director of youth services, gave a good report about the summer reading program. “I give it a 10 out of 10,” Dana said, saying the program finally reached its pre-pandemic involvement level this year.
Motion to make board packets and public comments available from Library Board
Board Secretary Echo Alexzander made a motion to make all board packets and discussion public. The motion carried unanimously.
Book controversy draws numerous comments
A storm that has been brewing for months over whether sexually explicit library books should be made accessible to children erupted once again. Ten spoke on the topic; one guest speaker talked about another program.
Five were for keeping the library books available to children; five against.
