Sparta’s lonely barber dreams of new sidekick

Sparta, MO — Here are the facts about Sparta’s lonely barber.

Batman had Robin.

Lewis had Clark.

Even Smith had Wesson.

Is it any wonder that Sparta, Missouri’s Lone Ranger Barber dreams of having a Tonto?

“Hey, Tonto, can you CUT HAIR, Kemosabe?”

What’s a lonely barber to do?

Adam Struble, owner of Struble’s Barber Shop in Sparta, Missouri, is now in his 18th year serving the community. It’s barely more than a one horse town, by some standards, but there’s a lot o’ clippin’ goin’ on beyond that spinning barber pole on Main Street. Adam has cut more hair and trimmed more beards than almost anybody his age. He’s good at it, too.

Gobs and gobs of repeat business. Settlers come from far and near to settle in to the antique, homey atmosphere of the classic ol’ barber shop in a classic ol’ building.

But, sometimes there’s a tad bit of a wait. That’s ‘cos Adam’s second chair is, well, empty. He had a helper last year, but the youngun’ got him a higher payin’ gig working outside.

Some of y’all know exactly what it’s like to be in an old style barber shop. It’s one of the few places where men can be men. They can get away from the hustle and bustle of the real word, and set their worries and their sweaty ball caps aside for a few moments of personal attention.

“It’s about feeling good as much as looking good,” Adam says with a smile after yet another customer nods approvingly into the mirror after a fresh clip.

Most established barbers are like Adam. They’re locked in and have a loyal clientele. But the newbies fresh out of barber school who want a unique life should consider giving Adam a call at 417-844-7063. Better yet, stop by Struble’s Barber Shop, get a feel for the vibe, and talk to Adam Tuesday through Saturday (unless it’s turkey or deer season).

Just find Struble’s Barber Shop on Google maps, and pilgrim, you’re good to go.

Not a barber candidate? Come on over with a head full of hair (or a nice horseshoe head) and be ready to not only look good, but feel good, too.
