SPARTA, MO — Muddy Creek Corral’s grand opening is Saturday, May 3 and most folks are hyped up to welcome the new food, drink, music and entertainment venue. Doors open for lunch at 11 a.m. Live bands are scheduled at 2, 4:30, and 8 p.m.

Some, however, are concerned that alcohol sales may increase crime and disorderly conduct in the small, closeknit town.

The Christian County Trumpet caught word a few concerned citizens hoped to get a petition signed to discourage opening the establishment at 7502 State Highway 14 E, across from the old bank building. Some suggested a protest was planned for the grand opening Saturday.

“We want to thank the concerned citizens for being so attentive to potential crime in our community,” Muddy Creek owner Debra Brewster told the CCT in response to those in opposition. “We share their concerns. Our goal is to provide a safe environment for all.”

She added, “Muddy Creek offers employment and financial stability for those seeking that, as well as a much-needed option for daytime eating and nighttime entertainment and activities. Guests of all backgrounds and ages have different interests, and we intend to treat all with respect in a welcoming and safe atmosphere.”

Some former city leaders were also concerned about the establishment seeking a liquor license and openly opposed it in a Board of Aldermen meeting last year. But when Mayor Misty Holt learned Muddy Creek would feature a restaurant, not just a bar, she and other aldermen encouraged Brewster to re-apply for her license. Click here for more about that.

Brewster had already worked tirelessly to obtain proper licensing, and the initial setback caused her to have to re-invest a huge amount of time and money to get everything approved once again.

She sought and achieved necessary inspections and fully complies with all state and county regulations. It was a long and arduous process. At times, she felt discouraged, but now feels her tenacity will pay off.

“We’ve put in a huge investment; we don’t want to see anyone take away from that with any negative action towards our property or customers,” Brewster said. “This is the biggest venue with the most options for food, drink, activities, and live entertainment Sparta has ever seen. We are grateful to this wonderful community for giving us the opportunity to serve you. Please come with an open mind towards the fun and social outlet our venue offers. Let’s get to know each other and appreciate our differences, while celebrating life together!”

To anyone who still may have questions or concerns, Brewster welcomes your comments with open arms. Feel free to contact her directly at muddycreekcorral@gmail.com or come see her in person at Muddy Creek Corral.
