CLEVER, MO — Burt Whaley, newly elected State Representative in the 138th District, is back on his feet in time for the upcoming legislative session in January.
Whaley, now 61, suffered two torn Achillies tendons September 10 while attempting a gymnastic maneuver. Doctors said he would be laid up in a wheelchair for six weeks and not able to walk without medical walking boots for many more weeks. Reas more about that by clicking here.
Whaley beat the odds. “I’ve been walking, unassisted, for 3 weeks now,” he told the CCT this week.
Whaley was quick to say God is the reason for his rapid progress.
What is the new Republican state rep hoping to accomplish in Jefferson City? “I got the position to save babies,” he said bluntly. Backing up his idea, Whaley put his name on the support list for the “personhood” bill founded in 2020 by State Senator Mike Moon.
The personhood bill defines life at conception and establishes the value of human life in the womb. Read more by clicking here.
“If we can get legislators to pass this bill, it can go to the voters and possibly nullify amendment 3.”
The 138th District covers Stone and southern Christian County.
